Boston College scored eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second inning to win its sixth consecutive game, 10-4, against Quinnipiac at Shea Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles (32-14) sent 14 batters to the plate in the second, and did all of their damage after Shawn McGill and Marco Albano made two quick outs to start the inning.
Right fielder Mike Flynn drove a double to the left-center field gap and after second baseman Ryan Hutchinson walked, catcher Jett Ruiz hit a run-scoring single that plated Flynn. Senior Dave Preziosi singled to right center to knock in Hutchinson and after a wild pitch, he and Ruiz advanced to second and third.
Senior center fielder Drew Locke singled to center field to knock in two and advanced to second on Jared McGuire's base-hit. Both runners advanced on pitcher Cameron Ball's second wild pitch of the inning. Jason Delaney walked to load the bases and then McGill, in his second plate appearance of the inning, drew another walk to knock in Locke.
Quinnipiac replaced Ball with Brendan Dowding and Albano greeted the pitcher with a two-run single to center. Flynn registered his second hit of the inning with a single to left that scored McGill. Hutchinson was hit by a pitch and Ruiz flied out to right to end the rally.
Quinnipiac scored two runs in the top of the first off BC starter Matt Meyer, who made his first appearance since March 13. After walking the leadoff hitter, the sophomore allowed RBI singles to Bryan Sabatella and Wilson Matos to give the Bobcats the early lead. The southpaw (2-1) struck out two batters in two innings of work.
Sophomore Kevin Boggan worked four innings of shutout relief for the Eagles, surrendering just two hits and no walks.
The Eagles scored another run in the third on an RBI single by McGill and scored their final run in the eighth inning.
Albano allowed his first earned run in eight relief appearances this season in the top of the ninth.
BC pounded 13 hits in the victory. The Eagles have collected 10 or more hits in 24 games this season and have won 21 of those contests.
In a poll released on Tuesday morning by CollegeBaseballInsider.com, Boston College was ranked second in the Northeast region behind North Carolina-Wilmington. The Eagles are four wins shy of setting a new school record.
