
Lacrosse Falls In ECAC Championship To Connecticut

Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College lacrosse team fell to the University of Connecticut, 14-7, in the 2005 ECAC Division I Championship on Saturday afternoon at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. The Eagles finished their season with a 10-7 mark and earned their first 10-win season in more than 13 years.
In the first half, Connecticut (12-5) got on the board first at 5:02 to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Eagles responded after a scoreless six minutes of play. Courtney Legath connected off a pass from Lizette Blohm to even the score at one at 11:32.
The Huskies answered with four straight goals in a four-minute span to take a 5-1 advantage at 16:47.
Shauna Culhane cut the Connecticut lead to three at 21:10 with an unassisted tally. Susie Breaznell followed Culhane on a free position score for her 45th goal of the season.
Connecticut added two goals before Carley St. Lucia scored the final goal of the first half.
The Eagles headed into halftime trailing 7-4.
In the first half, goalie Courtney Zwirko stopped five shots on goal for the Eagles. Connecticut out-shot BC 16-6 in the opening half.
In the second half, the Eagles came out on fire with two quick scores. Culhane notched consecutive goals to bring BC within one.
The Huskies responded with seven goals in the second half to extend its lead.
St. Lucia netted the final BC goal of the game at 55:46 for her 28th goal of the year.
Jackie Yovankin surpassed the 200 groundball mark in her career with a team-leading three in the game. Yovankin also won a game-high four draw controls. St. Lucia picked up three groundballs for the Eagles.
Zwirko finished the game with seven saves for BC, while Jennifer Wong made 11 stops for Connecticut.
