Baseball's Joe Martinez Earns Academic Honors

Boston College senior Joe Martinez earned ESPN The Magazine Baseball Academic All-District honors, according to an announcement made by the national sports information office on Thursday.
Martinez was named to the All-District I team, making him eligible for the national All-America ballot.
The finance major has excelled on the mound this season, compiling an 8-2 record and a team-best 2.30 ERA. Martinez has thrown complete games in each of his last five starts - all Big East conference games.
The righthander leads the Eagles with 90 strikeouts and 82.0 innings pitched. He tossed his second shutout of the season on Monday, May 9, beating Pittsburgh, 3-0. Martinez scattered three hits in the seven-inning victory.
Martinez and the Eagles (34-16) will look to tie the school record for victories when they host Marist on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
