Newton, Mass. - Susie Breaznell scored six goals and Carley St. Lucia tallied the 150th point of her career to lead the Boston College women's lacrosse team to an 18-11 win against St. Mary's of California on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Lacrosse Field. Before the game, the Eagles honored their four seniors who played in their final home game at BC.
BC (10-5) out-shot St. Mary's 42-19 in the game.
In the first half, the Eagles came out on fire with 10 straight goals. Half of the first 10 goals came on free position shots.
Jackie Yovankin opened up the scoring at 28:24 with a free position goal. Katherine Wagoner followed with a free position score and Yovankin netted her second goal in two minutes on a free position shot.
Breaznell continued the BC run with four consecutive goals, two coming on free position shots.
Lizette Blohm extended the Eagles lead to eight at 18:07 when she connected off a pass from St. Lucia. At 15:58 Breaznell dished a pass to Courtney Legath who found the back of the net for her ninth goal of the season.
St. Lucia notched the 10th straight goal for the Eagles at 14:22.
St. Mary's (1-15) got on the board at 11:46 and cut the lead to eight with two goals.
Yovankin tallied her third goal of the game at 8:41 off a pass from Allie Lloyd and Caitrin Ryan scored with 3:22 remaining in the half.
The Eagles headed into halftime with a 12-4 advantage.
In the first half, Courtney Zwirko stopped three shots on goal for the Eagles and Katie Augustine made four saves for the Gaels.
In the second half, Breaznell continued her scoring at 27:59 with her fifth goal of the game. Brennan Joyce assisted on the score.
St. Mary's responded with five goals in seven minutes to make the score 13-10.
The Eagles had an answer for the Gaels. BC went on a 4-0 run to stretch its lead to seven. Blohm sparked the run at 11:31 with a free position goal. At 8:43 Breaznell scored her sixth goal of the game and 44th of the season.
Wagoner netted her second score of the day at 8:20 and St. Lucia completed a hat trick at 7:25. The goal is St. Lucia's 150th point of her career. Legath assisted on the goal.
Joyce dominated off the draw controls for the Eagles. She won a game-high five draws. Breaznell picked up a team-high three groundballs, while St. Lucia caused a game-high three turnovers.
In goal, Zwirko made four saves, while Tara McKennett played the final 20:40 of regulation and stopped one shot on goal for the Eagles. Augustine made 13 saves for the Gaels.
BC will travel to Hanover, N.H. on Wednesday, May 4 to face Dartmouth in its final game of the season. The game starts at 6 p.m.
