Freshman pitcher Terry Doyle threw eight innings and allowed one run as the Eagles cruised past Holy Cross 7-1. BC exploded for four runs in the third and fourth as the Crusaders (11-20, 3-9) failed to put more than one run on the board.
The Eagles (27-14, 11-5) struck first, putting up one run in the bottom of the third. With runners on first and second, Jett Ruiz laid down a bunt along the third-base line. It was misplayed by the Holy Cross third baseman and Mike Flynn came around to score.
The next inning, the Eagles came back to score three. Jason Delaney began the rally with a double. Delaney, Shawn McGill and Marco Albano, 2-4 with two RBIs on the day, all crossed the plate to make it a 4-0 game after four innings of play.
Delaney notched an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Drew Locke. Albano singled up the middle and Delaney crossed the plate for the second time of the afternoon.
In the eighth, Ryan Hutchinson, 4-4 on the afternoon, hit a single to right and was driven in by Tom Macker on a fielder's choice.
Doyle started on the hill for BC. The freshman threw eight innings, surrendering one earned run and fanning 10 batters. Nick Asselin closed out the game for BC.
Holy Cross' Matt O'Brien threw four-plus innings, allowing three earned runs. Kevin O'Dea, Matt Blake and Scott Hampe finished the game for HC, allowing three additional runs.
The Eagles host Massachusetts tomorrow afternoon at Shea Field. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
