The Boston College baseball team won its third game in the past two days on Monday afternoon, defeating Temple, 9-4, in Boca Raton, Fla. The Eagles (3-4) also defeated the Owls on Sunday afternoon after registering a 17-0 victory over La Salle that morning.
Sophomore pitcher Matt Meyer earned his first victory of the season with seven strong innings for the Eagles. Meyer (1-1) scattered six hits and struck out nine batters while allowing four earned runs.
Third baseman Jared Mcguire notched two hits on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. McGuire now has 10 hits in his last 14 at-bats after going 8-for-10 in yesterday's games with a home run. He is batting a team-leading .480.
Temple touched up Meyer for three hits and two runs in the bottom of the first, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead. Jason Delaney led off the top of the second with a solo home run to left field to bring the Eagles within a run. It was Delaney's second round-tripper in the past two games and second of the year.
BC tied the game in the top of the third, but Meyer surrendered another two runs before settling in and allowing just one hit in the next four innings.
The Eagles broke the game open in the top of the fourth, tallying six runs to take an 8-4 lead. Senior Mike Flynn led off with a single to center and advanced on Ryne Reynoso's groundout to first. Shortstop Marco Albano proceeded to double to left center, scoring Flynn. Albano was 2-for-5 and has hit safely in each of BC's seven games this season.
Freshman Johnny Ayers walked to put runners on first and second and senior Dave Preziosi loaded the bases on a bunt single. Shawn McGill hit into a fielder's choice, knocking in Albano. Senior Drew Locke ripped an RBI single to right and after Delaney was intentionally walked, McGuire drove a three-run triple to right, giving the Eagles a four-run lead.
McGill was 2-for-4 for the Eagles and scored three runs. He also threw out three Temple runners attempting to steal.
Sophomore Kevin Boggan relieved Meyer in the bottom of the eighth and surrendered one hit in the final two innings.
