Senior lefthander Mike Wlodarczyk allowed just two hits in Boston College's Big East opener, leading the Eagles over West Virginia, 7-2, in the front end of Thursday's doubleheader in Morgantown, W.Va. Wlodarczyk tossed a seven-inning complete game and matched last year's win total with his fourth victory of the season. It was the team's 12th win in its last 13 games.
Wlodarczyk (4-1) struck out five batters and entered the last of the seventh on the brink of a one-hit shutout. The southpaw walked the leadoff batter and quickly retired the next two hitters. With a runner on second and two outs, West Virginia freshman Michael Burger doubled to center and knocked in the team's first run of the day. A BC error allowed Burger to score before Wlodarczyk recorded the final out.
The BC offense had 10 hits in the game, marking the fourth consecutive game the Eagles (12-5) have reached double digits in that category.
BC entered the top of the fifth inning with a 2-0 lead, but scored five runs on three hits to blow the game open. Mike Flynn had an RBI single and Marco Albano had a two-run double during the rally. Senior Dave Preziosi singled to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
Senior Jason Delaney was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game. Shawn McGill also had two hits for BC.
