Outdoor Track Opens Season In Miami

The Boston College track team ran its first outdoor race of the season this weekend at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla.
Senior Melissa Sherman won the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 9.09 seconds and qualified for the NCAA Regional in the process. Sherman finished nearly one second ahead of the second-place finisher. Mary Heitkamp and Kathleen Smyth were third and fourth, respectively, in the race.
Junior Laurel Burdick came in third in the 1,500 meters with a mark of 4:34.72. Senior Maria Cicero and junior Kristen Coon finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event.
Cicero won the 3,000 meters later in the meet, finishing in 9:41.46. Alexis Lake finished seventh in the event.
Seniors Megan Mara and Saki Sugano placed third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault for Boston College.
On the men's side, freshman Frank DiVittorio finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.26, finishing just behind a runner from Rutgers. DiVittorio's mark was a personal record on an outside track. Daniel LaFave, Patrick Mellea, Jeremy Zagorski and Daniel MacIsaac were also among the top 10 finishers in the event.
Zagorski won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:54.65, edging two runners from Syracuse. Senior Drew Bouchard and freshman Adam Moitoso finished first and second, respectively, in the 5,000-meter event
