Senior Maria Cicero was BC's highest individual finisher at the Penn Relays on Thursday, finishing fifth out of 36 runners in the 5,000-meter "Championship" with a time of 16 minutes, 37.46 seconds.
Cicero's mark qualifies her for the NCAA Regionals in the event. She has already qualified for the NCAA Championships with her school-record time in the 10,000 meters set at the Mt. SAC Relays earlier in the month.
Junior Alexis Lake ran BC's second-fastest time of the season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase en route to an 11th-place finish in the "Championship" heat. Classmate Anne Hessberg finished in a season-best 11:10.27 in the "College" race.
Kathleen Smyth, Kasey Hill, Mary Heitkamp and Melissa Sherman competed in the Distance Medley "Championship" and finished 14th in their heat with a mark of 11:55.15. Hill teamed with Liz Hassan, Jacqueline Tanzella and Erica Marcus to finish with a time of 1:00.75 in the Shuttle Hurdle "Championship."
Seniors Megan Mara and Saki Sugano finished 14th and 18th, respectively, in the pole vault.
On the men's side, seniors Trevor Rozier-Byrd and Drew Bouchard ran in the 3,000-meter Olympic Development Steeplechase. Rozier-Byrd finished 12th with a mark of 9:19.65 and Bouchard came in 14th with a time of 9:23.50.
The Eagles had a third-place finish in their heat of the Distance Medley "Championship," as freshmen Patrick Mellea, Frank DiVittorio and Jeremy Zagorski teamed with senior co-captain Geoff Atkins to come in at 9:58.95.
BC volunteer assistant coach Amy Mortimer ran away with the 5,000-meter Olympic Development race, finishing more than 30 seconds in front of the second-place finisher on her way to victory with a time of 15:48.13.
