Babson Park, Mass. - Boston College freshman Shauna Culhane netted five goals to lead the women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 win over Stony Brook University tonight at Babson College. The Eagles earn their third straight win and fourth of the season.
In the first half, Stony Brook (3-1) got on the board first. One minute later, at 26:45, Elizabeth Kadison started a run of three consecutive BC goals with her first tally of the game. Lizette Blohm followed with a score at 25:44, while Kadison added another at 21:56.
The Seawolves responded with two goals to even the score at three at 18:27.
The Eagles exploded with seven unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-3 lead into halftime. At 12:50 Susie Breaznell connected off a pass from Kadison to put BC up by one. During the seven-goal stretch, Culhane tallied three goals, while Breaznell notched two. Blohm and Kadison also scored for the Eagles.
In the first half, Tara McKennett made nine saves in goal for BC, while Jen Sandtorv stopped two shots on goal for the Seawolves.
In the second half, the Eagles continued to extend their lead with five straight goals. At 28:42 Culhane made the score 11-3. Blohm scored her third goal of the game at 25:22 off a pass from Breaznell, and Kadison notched her fourth at 23:43. Culhane assisted on Kadison's score.
Jackie Yovankin scored her first goal of the game off a pass from Alana Vivolo at 21:17 and Culhane scored her fifth of the game at 19:55.
The Eagles held the Seawolves scoreless for more than 35 minutes during their 12-0 run.
At 17:22 Stony Brook got back on the board. Caitrin Ryan responded with her first career goal on a free position shot at 13:43. Blohm followed with her fourth goal of the night to put the Eagles up 17-4.
The Seawolves closed out regulation with six consecutive goals.
In the second half, Courtney Zwirko made two saves for BC, while Gina DeNuzzo stopped two shots on goal for Stony Brook.
Brooke Wilson and Vivolo controlled the groundballs for the Eagles by picking up three a piece.
BC will host Notre Dame in Big East action on Saturday, March 26. The game starts at 1 p.m. at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass.
