Lacrosse Edges Notre Dame In Overtime, 10-9

Waltham, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team edged Notre Dame, 10-9 in overtime, today at Bentley College in Big East play. Sophomore Katherine Wagoner scored the game-winning goal to lead the Eagles to their first win in program history over the Fighting Irish.
In the first half, BC (5-1, 1-1) got on the board first. Susie Breaznell connected on a free position shot at 27:34 and Elizabeth Kadison notched her first goal of the game 32 seconds later to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
Notre Dame (2-5, 0-1) scored its first goal of the day at 18:58 to cut the BC lead to one.
The Eagles responded with four straight goals. At 17:31 Breaznell led the Eagle charge with her second goal of the game off a pass from Kadison. Less than two minutes later, Kadison found the back of the net for her second of the afternoon.
With 5:55 remaining in the first, Carley St. Lucia notched her first of two consecutive goals off a pass from Wagoner. At 1:22, she added her second tally to extend BC's lead to 6-1.
The Fighting Irish added one goal before the end of the half. The Eagles headed into the break with a 6-2 advantage. BC out-shot Notre Dame 13-8 in the first half.
Notre Dame started the second half with four unanswered goals, tying the game at six at 22:13
At 19:52, St. Lucia gave BC the lead with a free position goal.
The Fighting Irish evened the score with 8:27 remaining in regulation. The Eagles continued to find an answer when Breaznell tallied her third goal of the game at 7:34.
At 5:24, Notre Dame evened the score at eight, for the third tie of the day.
Courtney Legath gave the Eagles a one goal lead at 4:06 when she scored off a pass from St. Lucia. The Fighting Irish scored with 1:07 left in the half, to force an extra period of play.
In overtime, Wagoner notched the gamewinner just 26 seconds into the first session. The Eagles protected the ball and Alana Vivolo forced a key turnover to help BC maintain possession for the final 5:34.
Goalie Tara McKennett was unstoppable down the stretch for the Eagles. The junior made a season-high 13 saves, including two in the final seconds of overtime. Carol Dixon stopped 12 shots on goal for the Fighting Irish.
Jackie Yovankin and Brooke Wilson dominated in the midfield for BC. Yovankin won six draw controls and picked up three groundballs, while Wilson caused two turnovers and picked up one groundball.
BC will face cross-town rival Boston University on Wednesday, March 30. The game will be played at BU's Nickerson Field and action starts at 7 p.m.
