The Boston College men's basketball team earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will square off against the University of Pennsylvania (20-8) in the first round on Thursday, March 17. The opening game of the Chicago Regional will be played in Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center. The Eagles will play the second game of Thursday's afternoon doubleheader (tip time: approx. 2:55 p.m.).
This is BC's second consecutive NCAA berth and its 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles are 10-3 in first-round games since their first berth in 1958.
Boston College (24-4) has played the Quakers twice in school history. Their last meeting was in 1969 when Penn defeated BC by a score of 86-65.
The last time the Eagles faced an Ivy League opponent in the NCAA Tournament was against Princeton in 1983. BC was also a fourth seed that season. The Eagles played one Ivy League team this year, defeating Yale, 82-80, in double overtime.
With a victory over Penn, the Eagles will play the winner of No. 5 Alabama and No. 12 Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday, March 19. BC has never played either team.
