Lake Placid, N.Y. - The Eagles hosted the Clarkson University Golden Knights for the second time this weekend at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. Despite the Eagles scoring first in the second period, the Golden Knights scored the gamewinner in the overtime period to take the game, 2-1.
Defense dominated the first period of play as BC was held to two shots on goal and Clarkson only managed five shots through 20 minutes of play. In the second period both teams got on the board. BC scored the first goal halfway through the second period as freshman Becky Zavisza scored her 11th goal of the season. Zavisza leads the team in goals scored and is second on the team in points with 16. Freshmen Brie Baskin and Stephanie Olchowski tallied their first collegiate points as they both recorded assists on the play. Five minutes later Clarkson would tie up the game at one a piece as Brooke Beazer scored her fifth goal of the season.
The third period, like the first, was dominated by defense again as neither team got the puck in the net. BC was held to only four shots on goal while Clarkson only totaled six. The game went into overtime, 1-1.
Clarkson had the only shot on goal during the overtime period as Marie-Jo Gaudet scored the game winner at 2:20 for Clarkson to take the game from the Eagles, 2-1.
Senior co-captain Alison Quandt finished the game with 20 saves. Her second 20-plus save game in as many days.
The Eagles now stand at 6-6-4 and 5-2-1 in Hockey East play. The Eagles return home to Kelley Rink in the New Year when they take on the Yale Bulldogs on Jan. 2. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
