Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles returned home from their road trip against Clarkson University as they hosted the Yale Bulldogs on Monday night. Despite coming back from a 2-1 deficit going into the third period, the Eagles fell as the Bulldogs scored with 34 seconds left in regulation to take the game, 3-2.
The Eagles got off to a strong start as freshman forward Meghan Fardelmann scored five minutes into the first period. Fardelmann notched her fifth goal of the season off of assists by sophomores Cristin Stuart and Lindsay Wright. This was Stuart's fifth assist of the season and Wright's second. Both teams focused on defense for the rest of the period as BC was held to six shots on goal while Yale only tallied seven shots.
Yale came roaring back in the second period as they scored two goals against the Eagles. Junior Christina Sharun scored her fourth goal of the season halfway through the second period to tie up the game at one. Three minutes later, the Bulldogs struck again as junior Kristin Savard scored a power-play goal to put Yale up, 2-1.
In the third period, Yale recorded 13 shots on goal while BC only had six. But BC would strike first in the third period tying the game up at two all on sophomore Colleen Harris's first goal of the season. Sophomore Deborah Spillane assisted on the play to continue leading the team in assists with 11 on the season. Spillane now had 19 points which also leads the Eagles so far this season. With the game tied up, it looked like both teams would have to push the game into overtime but with 34 seconds left on the clock, Yale senior, Deena Caplette scored on short-handed, one on one goal against senior goalie Alison Quandt. Despite pulling their goalie, the Eagles' attempt at a comeback was foiled.
Quandt ended the night with 26 saves while Yale goalie, Sarah Love ended the night with 16.
The Eagles now stand at 6-7-4 and 5-2-1 in Hockey East play. The Eagles return to Hockey East action next Monday, Jan. 9 as they travel to Northeastern. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
