Senior forward Craig Smith was named to the Associated Press Preseason All-America team, according to an announcement made by the wire service.
Smith was one of three Atlantic Coast Conference players on the elite five-member team. Duke seniors J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams were the top vote-getters on the team. Illinois senior Dee Brown and Gonzaga junior Adam Morrison completed the list of honorees.
The Los Angeles, Calif., resident averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Eagles last season. He earned All-America third-team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Smith also gained All-Big East first-team accolades.
Three months ago, Smith was named as one of 50 candidates for the 2005-06 John R. Wooden Preseason All-American Team. He is one of only four players on the 2005-06 Wooden preseason list that was named to last year's official voting ballot.
Boston College, ranked 11th in both preseason national polls (Associated Press and USA Today), opens its season on Sunday, Nov. 13 with an exhibition contest against St. Michael's College. Game time is 7 p.m. The Eagles begin regular-season play on Friday, Nov. 18 against Dartmouth.
