CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Tim Filangieri scored his first two collegiate goals to lead sixth-ranked Boston College to a 3-0 Hockey East victory over Merrimack before 4,828 fans in Kelley Rink.
Boston College led 2-0 after the first period before notching an additional tally in the third period. Sophomore Dan Bertram opened the scoring at 5:09, netting his third goal of the season.
Filangieri doubled the margin with his first collegiate goal - and point - at 16:42. The freshman added his second tally at 12:54 of the final period.
BC (6-3-1, 5-1-1 Hockey East) outshot the visiting Warriors, 39-16, including a 16-3 margin in the first period. Sophomore goaltender Cory Schneider made 16 saves to earn his second collegiate shutout and BC's first of the season.
Warrior junior goalie Jim Healy made 36 stops. Merrimack, which last defeated Boston College in Kelley Rink on Oct. 31, 1997, falls to 3-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play.
Game Notes: The shutout marked the Eagles' first since Jan. 28, 2005, when BC defeated Massachusetts, 6-0 ... sophomore goalie Cory Schneider last shutout an opponent on Jan. 11, 2005, when BC defeated Yale, 1-0 ... Boston College is unbeaten in its last nine meetings against Merrimack (7-0-2) and improves to 14-0-1 in its last 15 games against the Warriors in Kelley Rink ... the game marked the first time Merrimack head coach Mark Dennehy, who helped guide the Eagles to three Hockey East regular-season titles during his four years at BC (1987-91), faced his alma mater.
