Volleyball Drops Close Match to Clemson

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles started off strong against the Clemson University as they took the first two games of the match but dropped the match, 3-2 to a resilient Clemson team. Junior co-captain Allison Anderson led the defense with a season-high 53 digs.
Junior Morgan Woodcock led the attack matching a season and career-high 17 kills. Woodcock also hit a team-high .310. Also chipping in offensively was junior Dorota Niemczewska who put down 14 kills and came up with 19 digs on the night. Freshman Tori Thompson had a strong night with seven kills and 22 digs. Junior Shardai Davis had 12 kills, 12 digs and served up three aces, a match-high.
In senior co-captain Verena Rost's last match in Power Gym, the senior setter had a match high 58 assists along with six kills, 11 digs and one served ace.
In the first game BC dominated the entire game as they took the game 30-22. The Eagles were up by as much as 10 points with the score at 25-15, but the Tigers would not be so easily defeated. The Tigers made a small comeback but the Eagles would easily take the first game.
In the second game the Eagles got a five point lead at 27-22, but Clemson fought back and tied up the game at 30-30. The game went back and forth until BC took the game 33-31 on block assists by Morgan Woodcock and Dorota Niemczewska.
In game three, BC did some battling of their own. With the Eagles taking the lead 16-12, Clemson came back and took the lead at 19-16 and every point from then on out was a tough one. With the score at 25-28 in the Tiger's favor the Eagles took the next point but would eventually drop the game, 30-26 on a service ace by Clemson's Leslie Mansfield.
In game four Clemson lead for most of the beginning of the game until Davis gave BC its first lead at 16-15. BC tied the score up at 18-18 but lost the lead until freshman Tori Thompson tied the score up again on a kill at 24-24. But Clemson went on a 4-1 run to make the game 28-25 in the Tiger's favor. BC rallied but fell just short as Clemson took the game 30-27 on block assists by Dawn Robertson and Meghan Steiner.
In the fifth and final game Clemson took an early lead over the Eagles, 8-3. The Eagles started to gain some momentum after an attack error by Clemson, making the score, 11-4, still in Clemson's favor. The Tigers would eventually take game five and the match by a score of 15-7.
The Eagles finish out the regular-season next week at North Carolina and North Carolina State.
