Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles came back after dropping the first game of the match to a strong Georgia Tech team and beat the Yellow Jackets, 3-1 (24-30, 30-24, 30-26 and 30-28). This marks the Eagles' third ACC win of the season as they improve to 8-20 overall and 3-16 in league play.
Leading the attack was junior Dorota Niemczewska who put down a team-high 14 kills. Right behind Niemczewska were juniors Shardai Davis and Morgan Woodcock who both had 13 kills for the match. Woodcock had a match-high .462 hitting percentage while also putting up a team-high six blocks. Davis had 16 digs for the match as well as four blocks. Assisting her teammates a match-high 54 times, senior co-captain Verena Rost also had five kills, 12 digs and five blocks, including two solo blocks.
Defensively junior co-captain Allison Anderson led the team with 21 digs and served up one ace to bring her season total to a team-high 33.
Sophomores Kelsey Johnson and Abigail Hasebroock also contributed to the attack both putting down eight kills on the night. Johnson also tallied eight digs and three assists while Hasebroock had three digs and one block.
In the first game, despite leading early, the Eagles struggled after the Jackets tied the game up at 16-16. Georgia Tech would eventually go on a 10-5 run to take the game from BC, 30-24. But the Eagles would battle back to upend the Jackets and take the final three games of the match.
In game two, the Eagles dominated for most of the beginning of the match, going ahead of Tech by as much as 10 points, but the Jackets would not be so easily defeated and came within three with the score at 25-22 in BC's favor. A service error on Georgia Tech would eventually give the game to the Eagles, 30-24.
Game three and four were much of the same as both teams battled for every single point. Despite leading in the beginning of the third, the Eagles were resilient and tied the game up at 20-20. Boston College got its first lead at 22-20 and never looked back as the Eagles took the game 30-26 and the lead in the match.
Georgia Tech fought hard in the fourth game to push a fifth and final game, tying the game up again at 20-20 and again at 27-27, but the Eagles kept their momentum and took the game and the match by a score of 30-28.
Leading the Georgia Tech was Talisa Kellogg who tallied a match-high 21 kills and Lindsey Gray who assisted her teammates 43 times.
The Eagles return to Power Gym on Saturday night for their final home game of the season as they take on the Clemson Tigers at 7 p.m. The Eagles defeated Clemson earlier in the year, 3-1.
