Volleyball Drops Tough Match to Duke

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles battled through every point of a disappointing, yet exciting loss to Duke, 3-1. The Eagles stayed within two points of every game of the match (30-28, 31-29, 34-36, 30-28) but the Blue Devils would eventually take the match from the resilient Eagles. BC falls to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
Despite the loss of the match, the Eagles took the Blue Devils to a thrilling 36-34 victory in the third game but eventually dropped game four and the match to Duke, who now stands at 11-5 overall and 5-3 in conference.
The Eagles had one of their most balanced all around efforts this season against Duke. BC had five players with double-digit kills and four players putting up double-digit digs.
Junior co-captain Allison Anderson led the team in digs with 27 and was tied for third on the team with 12 kills while assisting in two blocks. Anderson also had two served aces on the night. This was Anderson's seventh match this season where she has posted 20 or more digs. Senior co-captain Verena Rost led the team in assists with a team-high total of 61. She also had four kills, one ace and two block assists throughout the match.
Junior Morgan Woodcock led the team in blocks for the match with a total of six. The junior middle blocker also put down 12 kills, one assist and three digs. Junior outside hitter Dorota Niemczewska had five blocks on the night with three digs, one assist and 10 kills. Junior Shardai Davis had a team-high 15 kills which was also a personal best for her this season. Davis also had eight digs and one block assist.
Junior libero Kristin Kenney had 24 digs on the night and one assist. Sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Johnson added 13 kills, six digs, one assist and two blocks.
Despite the loss, the Eagles will come back looking for their second conference win on Sunday as they take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at home on October 16, at noon in Power Gym.
