Home games vs. Army, Florida State, Ball State, Virginia, Wake Forest and North Carolina State highlight the 2005 Boston College football schedule, which was released Thursday.
"This is obviously a very challenging schedule," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo says. "The excitement level at The Heights should be at an all-time high on September 17 when Florida State comes to town for our first-ever ACC game. We're happy to have Army back on the schedule, and we're looking forward to our inaugural season in the ACC. It should be a real treat for our fans to have FSU, Virginia, Wake Forest and N.C. State visit Alumni Stadium."
The Eagles will open the 2005 season on Saturday, September 3 with a road game at BYU. Army returns to Alumni Stadium for BC's home opener on Saturday, Sept. 10 followed by that Sept. 17 date with the Florida State Seminoles. One week later, the Eagles will play their first ACC road game at Clemson. Ball State comes to Alumni Stadium on Oct. 1 for the first of three consecutive home games. On Oct. 8, the Eagles will take on the Virginia Cavaliers. One week later, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons visit Chestnut Hill.
The Eagles will rekindle their rivalry with Virginia Tech when they travel to Blacksburg for a Thursday night game on Oct. 27. On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Eagles will head to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in a rematch of the December 30 Continental Tire Bowl game, which the Eagles won, 37-24. North Carolina State comes to Alumni Stadium on November 12, and the Eagles conclude the regular season the next week when they travel to Maryland.
The Eagles will enter the 2005 season in the hunt for an unprecedented seventh consecutive bowl game and sixth consecutive bowl win. The 2004 Eagles finished with a 9-3 record and won a share of their first-ever Big East Conference title. BC is the only team in college football to have won a bowl game the past five consecutive seasons.
Television appearances and game times will be announced at a later date.
