Softball Tabbed Fourth In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

Providence, R.I. - The Boston College softball team was selected to finish in fourth place in the 2005 BIG EAST Preseason Softball Poll, by a vote of the league's head coaches. Notre Dame, winners of last year's regular season, was selected as the favorite for the fourth consecutive season. Seton Hall, after winning the 2004 BIG EAST Championship, is chosen second. Notre Dame received nine of 10 first-place votes while the Pirates received the other.
Notre Dame received 81 points for the No. 1 spot in the 2005 BIG EAST Softball preseason coaches poll. Despite having won the regular season last year, the Irish were runners-up to Seton Hall at the tournament championship. The Pirates received 73 points in the second spot while Villanova took the third spot with 63 points. The Eagles were picked to finish fourth, after ending last year in that same spot
In 2004, Boston College finished with a 33-25 overall mark (11-9 BIG EAST). Head Coach Jen Finley and the Eagles return seven starters and 10 letter winners, including All-BIG EAST performer Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) and co-captains Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) and Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.).
