The Boston College men's soccer team is ranked eighth in the current NSCAA/adidas poll for Division I programs. The Eagles (2-0) started the season unranked, but jumped all the way into the top ten after two impressive victories last week. BC won its season opener with a 3-1 decision over Brown, who had been ranked #21 in the country at the time of the defeat. Freshman Johann Helgason (Akureyri, Iceland) scored the game-winner and freshman Charlie Davies (Manchester, N.H.) and senior co-captain Pat Haggerty (Lawrenceville, N.J.) also registered goals. Guy Melamed (Nofit, Israel), the Eagles' other co-captain, notched an assist in the win. On Sunday afternoon, the Eagles registered a 1-0 shutout over Cal State-Northridge behind a stellar effort from BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week Issey Maholo (Tokyo, Japan). Maholo tallied six saves in the win and had 13 combined in the two wins. Davies netted the game-winner early in the second half on a feed from Melamed. It was the second time the duo hooked up this season. Davies was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for his accomplishments. The Eagles return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Syracuse at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
