The Boston College sailing team is dubbed number two in the nation as of the most recent sailing coaches' poll. These college rankings are determined by Sailing World's coaches panel. The panel is comprised of coaches Michael Callahan (Georgetown), Ken Legler (Tufts), and Mike Segerblom (USC). The rankings that place BC at number two are based on results through Sept. 21.
The coed team ranks at number two in the country. Thus far, the team has won two regattas in the first three weeks of the season. Most recently, the team won the Nevin's Trophy for the first time in BC history. To achieve this milestone, the Eagles finished ahead of all 19 other teams in the competition.
The women's team also made the rankings; placing ninth in the national poll. Previously holding the seventh ranking, the team slid a bit after a four place finish in the first regatta of the 2004 season. MIT's Man-Labs Women's Regatta hosted 13 teams and the event saw BC's Julie Wilson '05 and Lizz McAlpine '06 finish 3rd in A Division.
The upcoming weekend, the team has action all over the northeast. At MIT/Coast Guard, the Women's Singlehanded New England Championships will take place. In other local action, the Metro Series 3 will sail on Friday as the Hood Trophy, hosted by Tufts, will take place on Saturday. UNH hosts the Loder this Saturday as well.
