Junior Jason Delaney (Hanson, Mass.) belted a grand slam in the top of the 12th inning to lift the Boston College baseball team to a 7-3 win over West Virginia, Sunday, May 9 in Morgantown. The Eagles improved to 25-22 overall and 11-7 in the BIG EAST while West Virginia dropped to 18-26 and 8-15.
Senior Mike Gauthier (Salem, Mass.) picked up the win, throwing 3.2 inning of relief mostly in extra-inning play, without allowing a baserunner. He retired 11-straight batters. Senior Matt O'Donnell (Marlboro, Mass.) started the game for BC, surrendering three unearned runs on seven hits while fanning five and walking three.
In BC's first at bat, Garrett Greer (Peabody, Mass.) delivered a two-out, three-run double to jumpstart the Eagle offense. The Mountaineers climbed back, though, scoring three runs in the first five innings, to tie the game at three; that score remained until the top of the 12th when BC loaded the bases on two walks and a single, setting the stage for Delaney's dramatic launch.
Dave Preziosi (Oradell, N.J.) contributed three hits and Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass.) and Garrett Greer (Peabody, Mass.) each had two.
BC hosts Virginia Tech, Saturday, May 15. Game time is 4 p.m. #
