Men's Hockey Falls To Maine In Frozen Four Semifinal

BOSTON - Maine goalie Jimmy Howard stopped 40 of 41 Eagle shots as Boston College fell to Maine by a 2-1 score in the NCAA Semifinals at the FleetCenter. Ryan Shannon scored the lone BC goal.
The Black Bears started the scoring at 19:28 of the first period when Jon Jankus fired a shot that snuck under the left arm of BC goalie Matti Kaltiainen. The Eagles evened the score at 2:35 of the second. Shannon won a faceoff backwards to Chris Collins who put a shot on goal. Howard turned away Collins' bid, but Shannon found the rebound and slid a backhander past Howard's outstretched leg. Dustin Penner's goal at 1:05 of the third stood as the game-winner.
The Eagles, who finish the season with a record of 29-9-4 outshot the Black Bears by a 41-18 margin. Kaltiainen made 16 saves.
