Former Boston College football players Chris Snee (Montrose, Pa.) and Sean Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y.) were both selected in the 69th Annual National Football League Draft, held at Madison Square Garden this past weekend. The New York Giants made Snee their second pick, selecting him in the second round with the 34th overall pick, while Ryan went to the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round.
Snee, an All-BIG EAST first team selection in 2003 who declared for the draft after his junior season, became the second offensive guard selected overall. As the second pick of the second round, Snee will play for Former Boston College head coach and current New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin. Having started at guard since his freshman year, he joins a long list of Eagle offensive lineman to have been selected in the NFL Draft, the seventh under current Head Coach Tom O'Brien.
Ryan, a senior tight end, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round with the 144th overall pick. A three-year starter, Ryan originally began his career at defensive end before switching to tight end. He led the Eagles in touchdown receptions in 2003 with six.
Though not drafted, three Eagles signed rookie free-agent contracts following the draft. Derrick Knight (Westwood, Mass.), Boston College's all-time leading rusher and an All-BIG EAST performer in his senior campaign, signed with the Carolina Panthers. Senior Augie Hoffmann (Park Ridge, N.J.), who earned first team All-BIG EAST honors in 2003 at offensive guard, signed with the New Orleans Saints. Douglas Goodwin (Freeport, N.Y.), another senior standout and All-BIG EAST selection at defensive tackle, signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
