Junior Chris Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) surrendered five hits in a complete-game outing to lead the Boston College baseball team to a 4-2 win over St. John's in game one of a BIG EAST doubleheader, Saturday, April 17 at Chestnut Hill. The Red Storm bounced back and served the hosts a 7-1 loss in game two to improve to 19-12 overall and 8-4 in the league. The Eagles' record now stands at 14-18 overall and 5-4.
Chris Lambert earned his 20th career win at Boston College and third of the 2004 season in the seven-inning outing. His six-K day increased his three-year strikeout total to 224.
Drew Locke's (Weymouth, Mass.) two-run single to center field and Ryan Morgan's (Weymouth, Mass.) RBI double comprised BC's three-run production in the first inning of game one. Morgan, who registered all three RBI in the 3-0 victory over Harvard yesterday, also drove in BC's final run of the day in the third stanza. St. John's tacked on one run in the fifth on Blake Hershelman's sacrifice fly and another tally in the seventh off of Jim Martin's RBI groundout.
The Johnnies' Joe Reid suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in 6.0 innings of work with five strikeouts and two walks.
Three Red Storm players contributed two hits each, and Joe Burke slammed three hits in the Johnnie's 11-hit output in game two. After BC grabbed the 1-0 lead after one, St. John's scored two runs in each of three innings and capped it off with one more tally in their final at bat. Joe Burke and Eddie Schulz, the team's no. five and six batters, each drove in a pair of runs.
A trio of St. John's pitchers limited BC to a total of seven hits in that second game and one run by Morgan, who lifted his second tater in as many days, to lead off the first inning.
St. John's starter, Matt Tosoni, lifted his record to 3-0, allowing five hits in 5.0 innings with a pair each of strikeouts and walks. Geno Orsogna and Craig Hansen pitched over the final four innings, combining for two strikeouts and one free pass while giving up two BC hits.
The two teams meet in the rubber match of the series, Sunday, April 18. Game time is noon.
