Women's Lacrosse Drops Match To Rutgers, 10-3

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Susie Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.) recorded all three goals and Carley St. Lucia (Delmar, N.Y.) tallied one assist to lead Boston College in a 10-3 loss to BIG EAST opponent Rutgers, Friday evening at Alumni stadium.
Down 5-1, Breaznell scored back-to-back free-position goals to open the second half and cut the Rutgers' lead to 5-3. But the visiting Scarlet Knights (6-6, 2-3) responded with two goals less than three minutes apart and five unanswered scores to earn the 10-3 win.
Emily Widrick led the Rutgers offensive attack with three goals on the night. Katie Batiuk, Maggie Bopp and Jaime Farewell each contributed two goals and Lisa Savage added one to round out the Scarlet Knights scorers.
Rutgers opened the game with two free-position goals - one from Farewell and one from Savage - in the first six minutes of the game. Breaznell put the Eagles on the board ten minutes later taking a feed from St. Lucia for her first goal of the game at the 14-minute mark. Rutgers added three consecutive goals to take a 5-1 lead into halftime.
Boston College (5-8, 0-5) was out shot by Rutgers, 22-17 and the Scarlet Knights converted 4-of-5 free position attempts in the game while the Eagles converted on 2-of-5.
A total of five cards were handed out in the match. St. Lucia and Meggie O'Neill (Garden City, N.Y.) each received double yellow cards. St. Lucia was forced out of the match with 19:37 left to play while O'Neill got her second with 2:55 remaining. The fifth card was given to Rutgers' Maggie Bopp at with 15 seconds left in to play.
Tara McKennett (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied seven saves in net for BC while her counterpart Lindsey Feldman recorded eight, including six in the first half.
Boston College hosts Syracuse for its sixth and final conference match Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
