Women's Lacrosse Falls To No.13 Syracuse, 14-10

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Carley St. Lucia (Delmar, N.Y.) scored two goals and tallied two assists while Courtney Legath (Moorestown, N.J.) and Meggie O'Neill (Garden City, N.Y.) each tallied two goals and one assist to lead Boston College in a 14-10 conference loss to 13th-ranked Syracuse, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
Susie Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.) chipped in with two scores on six shots-on-goal and Carter Kahle (Houston, Texas) and Kathleen Gallagher (Annapolis, Md.) added one goal apiece to round out the scorers for BC.
After the Eagles built a 2-1 lead to open the game, Syracuse (8-3, 4-1) scored eight consecutive goals over a span of 13 minutes for the 9-2 advantage. Legath added two goals at 2:28 and 1:06 and the Eagles went into the break trailing 9-4.
Boston College (5-9, 0-6) received three points - one goal and two assists - from St. Luica to spark a 5-3 run over the first 14 minutes of the second half and cut the Syracuse lead to three (12-9) with 16 minutes remaining. St. Lucia scored the Eagles' first goal of the second stanza on a free-position shot at 25:01 and assisted on Breaznell's second goal of the game less than two minutes later before Syracuse responded with Caitlyn Dragon's first of two second-half goals to make it 11-6 at 22:08. The Eagles and Orangewomen then traded goals with Kahle picking up her first goal on the year on a pass from St. Lucia before Boston College gained the momentum on back-to-back unassisted goals from Gallagher and O'Neill to cut the lead to three with 16:24 on the clock.
The two teams remained scoreless over the following 10 minutes before Dragon and Jill DePetris tallied consecutive goals at 4:56 and 2:52 to build the Syracuse lead to five. O'Neill added a free-position goal at 1:20 for the 14-10 final.
Boston College received a strong individual effort from freshman Brennan Joyce (Rye, N.Y.), who registered five draw controls in the match.
The Eagles out shot the Orange 24-22 and owned a commanding 20-5 advantage in ground balls. Legath led the way with four ground balls while Jacqueline Fiore (Garden City, N.Y.) and St. Lucia picked-up three apiece.
Tara McKennett (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Lawson (Claines, United Kingdom) combined for four saves in the contest while their counterpart Jennifer Kasel recorded eight saves in goal for the Orangewomen.
Boston College is back in action Saturday, April 24, when its hosts Holy Cross. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
