Rowing Co-Captain Earns Fulbright Scholarship

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College rower Katie Stainken (Hillsborough, N.J.), a senior chemistry and German double major in the College of Arts & Sciences, has been named a Fulbright Scholar, according to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Stainken will conduct research in atmospheric chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany during the 2004-2005 academic year.
In addition to serving as co-captain of the women's rowing team, Stainken is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society as well as the National Society for Collegiate Scholars.
The flagship international educational program sponsored by the United States Government, the Fulbright Program is designed to "increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries..." With this goal, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 250,000 participants - chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential - with the opportunity to study and teach in each other's countries, exchange ideas, and develop joint solutions to address shared concerns.
