Rowing Places in Top 10 At Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston College women's rowing team posted a top-10 finish Sunday at Eastern Sprints, highlighted by a fourth-place result in the Varsity Four Grand Final and a Petite Final victory from the Third Varsity Eight.

A strong performance by all crews at Eastern Sprints, the Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight led the way for the Eagles. The Varsity Four advanced to the Grand Final after a second-place finish in its initial heat (7:22.557), ultimately placing fourth overall with a time of 7:24.733. The crew finished ahead of Columbia and Boston University. The Third Varsity Eight won the Petite Final, clocking a time of 6:59.217. The crew finished more than three seconds ahead of Brown and Boston University, and more than 14 seconds ahead of last place Rhode Island.

"Awesome to see all four crews improve on their standing from last year and the team move up in overall points as well," said Head Coach Grace Hollowell. "Fantastic work by the Varsity Four to nearly medal and the Third Varsity Eight for winning the Petite Final against some very strong competition. I'm impressed by the team's ability to lean on each other and challenge each other to get better daily, and it showed today across all crews!"

In the Second Varsity Four, Boston College placed fifth in its heat before finishing third in the Petite Final with a time of 7:47.156, behind Boston University and Cornell.

The Fourth Varsity Eight competed in the Grand Final, finishing fourth in 7:38.600 against a field led by Rutgers and Northeastern.

The Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in its heat and went on to finish fourth in the Petite Final, crossing the line in 6:52.564. The crew finished ahead of URI and Temple.

The Varsity Eight rounded out the day for the Eagles, placing fifth in its initial heat before winning the Third Final with a time of 6:44.618, four seconds ahead of Connecticut and more than 18 ahead of last place Holy Cross.
