Home games vs. Penn State, Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts and Syracuse highlight the 2004 Boston College football schedule, which was released Tuesday.
"We're happy that our schedule has been finalized," Coach Tom O'Brien says. "Our preparation work begins Thursday, when we start spring practice. We're looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead of us."
The Eagles will open the 2004 season on Thursday, Sept. 2 with a road game at Ball State. BC's home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11, will feature the Penn State Nittany Lions, who will come to Chestnut Hill for the first time since 1990.
The Connecticut Huskies will come to Alumni Stadium on Sept. 17 for a rare Friday night clash to be televised nationally on ESPN2. On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Eagles will visit future Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Wake Forest. One week later, the Eagles will play host to the UMass Minutemen in the first meeting between the two teams since 1982.
Following an off week, the Eagles will take an Oct. 16 trip to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers. One week later, BC will travel to Notre Dame Stadium to take on the Fighting Irish on NBC, the last game scheduled between the two schools until the 2007 season. On Nov. 6, the Eagles enter the heart of their Big East schedule with a home date against Rutgers. Road games at West Virginia and Temple will be followed by BC's home and Big East Conference finale against the Syracuse Orangemen on Nov. 27.
The Eagles will enter the 2004 season in the hunt for an unprecedented sixth consecutive bowl game and fifth consecutive bowl win. The 2003 Eagles finished with an 8-5 record after a 35-21 win over Colorado State in the Diamond Walnut San Francisco Bowl. BC is the only team in college football to have won a bowl game the past four consecutive seasons.
Additional network and regional television appearances and game times will be announced at a later date.
