Freshman Jared Dudley scored 14 points and sophomore Louis Hinnant scored a career-high 12 points - all on second-half three-pointers - to lead Boston College to a 56-48 come-from-behind victory over Virginia Tech before 4,624 fans in Conte Forum.
Hinnant, who shot 0-for-2 in the first half, was a perfect 4-for-4 from long range in the second half. Hinnant has now made 19 three-point field goals on 31 attempts in the Eagles' last 10 games.
Sophomore Craig Smith added 11 points to round out BC's list of double-figure scorers.
The host Eagles trailed for much of the contest, before using a 17-0 second-half run to turn a 40-33 deficit into a 50-40 advantage. Smith scored seven straight points in this decisive stretch. Junior Nate Doornekamp, who finished with six points, capped the rally with a field goal with 1:52 remaining in the game.
Virginia Tech (11-13, 4-9 BIG EAST) closed to within four points with 34.8 seconds to play on the second of consecutive three-point field goals by senior Bryant Matthews. The Eagles secured the win with a Dudley dunk and 4-for-4 shooting from the foul line in the final 24 seconds.
Boston College (19-8, 8-6) jumped out to a 12-4 lead early less than eight minutes into the game, before the visiting Hokies used a 12-0 run to take a 16-12 advantage with 7:45 remaining before halftime. Virginia Tech outscored BC 9-8 in the rest of the half to take a 25-20 lead into the locker room.
BC twice tied the score early in the second half, but could not regain its early first-half advantage until Smith concluded his seven-point personal scoring streak with a field goal with 5:20 remaining.
Game Notes: BC shot 44.4 percent in the first half (8-for-18), before regaining its shooting touch by shooting 61.9 percent (13-for-21) in the final 20 minutes ... BC was credited with 19 assists on 21 field goals. . Hinnant handed out a game-high six assists ... Smith and Dudley tied for team-high rebounding honors with five apiece ... BC committed 15 turnovers - 12 in the first half and just three in the second half ... Virginia Tech gained a 27-25 rebounding edge.
