Seven Boston College football players are among a group of 68 student-athletes named to the 2003 Big East All-Academic Football Team, the league has announced.
BC's selections to the All-Academic team include senior DT Leonard Bennett (Washington, D.C.); senior LB Brian Flores (Brooklyn, N.Y.); senior FB Haven Perkins (Longwood, Fla.); junior QB Quinton Porter (Portland, Maine); senior PK Sandro Sciortino (Markham, Ontario); senior FB Greg Toal (Wyckoff, N.J.), and senior WR Derek Webley (Methuen, Mass.).
"We are very proud of these young men," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo says. "They truly define the concept of being a student-athlete."
Sciortino is among six players who were honored for the fourth time.
The All-Academic Team recognizes letterwinners who have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Student-athletes who have completed a minimum of two semesters of academic work and earned a letter are eligible. It is the 12th consecutive season the Big East has honored its student-athletes with an academic team.
