BOSTON - The Boston College women's track team finished first in a three-way meet hosted by Boston University on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The Eagles, who placed first in 10 out of 16 events, were led by freshman sprinter Kasey Hill (Montgomery Centre, Vt.). She finished first in the 55-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles.
Hill's first-place time of 8.29 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles ranks second in BC history.
The Eagles ran away with the competition, accumulating 87 team points, followed by host BU with 54. Providence College finished in third place with 29 points.
A trio of Eagles also established personal bests en route to winning their events. Senior Jennifer Kramer (Loundonville, N.Y.) established a personal best in the mile -- 4:45.66 -- which moves her into fourth place all-time at BC.
Junior Saki Sugano (Bellevue, Wash.) tied for first in the pole vault clearing 11'05.75". That standard ties Sugano's indoor personal best and ranks her second all-time at BC. Megan Mara (Avon, Conn.) shared first place at the BU Tri-Meet and holds the BC indoor record. She cleared 11'06.25" last year.
Sophomore Jessica Fazekas (Closter, N.J.) captured the weight throw hurling a distance of 45'09.75" which established a new personal best for Fazekas and ranks third all-time at BC. She also took first place in the shot put with a toss of 43'05.25", over eight feet farther than the nearest competitor.
Rounding out the first-place performers for Boston College were sophomore Chelsea Halbmaier (Windham, N.H.), who captured the high jump, and senior Katina McCrory (Washington, DC), who was victorious in the long jump. Halbmaier cleared 5'02.25", two inches higher than runner-up Julie Regan (Marblehead, Mass.) for the win. McCrory blew the competition away with her mark of 16'08.75" in the long jump. That leap was nine inches longer than the second-place finisher.
The Eagles were also victorious in the 4x400 meter relay.
The men's and women's track and field teams are back in action Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Valentine hosted by BU.
