Boston College true freshman linebacker Brian Toal (Wyckoff, N.J.) has been named Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Week after leading the BC defense in the Eagles' 21-10 victory over Rutgers. Toal had a career-high 15 tackles, including 12 solo stops. He also registered two tackles for a loss against the Scarlet Knights, who recruited the in-state high school All-American. With 49 tackles on the year (26 solos), Toal and fellow linebacker Ricky Brown lead the Eagles in tackles.
Toal shared his award with Syracuse strong safety Diamond Ferri, who helped lead the Orange to a 38-31 double-overtime victory versus Pittsburgh. West Virginia running back Kay-Jay Harris was named Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four times to lead the Mountaineers to a 42-21 win over Temple. Collin Barber of Syracuse was chosen as Special Teams Player of the Week.
Toal's honor is the fourth for an Eagle this season. Senior quarterback Paul Peterson was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week following BC's 27-7 win over Connecticut and Offensive Player of the Week after rallying the Eagles to a 24-23 win at Notre Dame. Junior linebacker Ray Henderson was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week when he registered a career-high two interceptions in the Eagles' 21-7 win over Penn State.
