The Boston College football team has accepted a bid to play in the third annual Continental Tire Bowl, to be held Thursday, December 30 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The 23rd-ranked Eagles (8-3) will play future ACC foe North Carolina (6-5). Kickoff time is set for 1 p.m.
"We are thrilled to accept the invitation to the Continental Tire Bowl, which will be our sixth consecutive bowl game," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo says. "We have heard nothing but wonderful things about the bowl from our friends who have gone there before. Our players are deserving of this reward after a truly outstanding season."
"We are excited to extend an invitation to such a storied program as Boston College," said Continental Tire Bowl executive director Will Webb. "Boston College has a very strong football tradition and has been nationally ranked most of the season. With the fourth pick from the Big East, we were able to take a first-place team. If not for an untimely injury, they may very well be playing in a BCS game. Boston College and North Carolina present a very appealing matchup for the Continental Tire Bowl."
Boston College will be playing in a school-record sixth consecutive bowl game and is the only team in America to have won a bowl game for the past four years in a row. The Eagles finished the regular season 8-3 and earned a share of their first Big East title with a 4-2 record.
"We are honored to be playing in the Continental Tire Bowl," Head Coach Tom O'Brien says. "We're looking forward to meeting an outstanding North Carolina team that beat Miami and got better and better as the season progressed. Our players are excited and eager to prepare for North Carolina."
