Junior Craig Smith registered 23 points, sophomore Jared Dudley tallied 17 points and sophomore Sean Marshall added 16 points to lead Boston College to a 79-70 non-league victory over future Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson before 7,182 fans in Conte Forum.
Smith and Dudley both grabbed eight rebounds, while Marshall contributed a team-high six assists.
Boston College (3-0) led 41-30 at halftime and withstood an early second-half Clemson run to earn the win.
The host Eagles jumped out to an 18-10 lead just more than 11 minutes into the contest. After Clemson (2-1) answered with seven straight points, BC closed the half with a 21-11 run. Dudley scored seven points in the team's rally.
Clemson, which scored the first 10 points of each half in last year's meeting with BC, opened the second half with a 9-0 run to cut its deficit to just two points at 41-39.
The Eagles responded with a 15-5 run in the game's next four minutes to take a 56-44 advantage with 13:27 remaining. Marshall scored six points in this stretch, including a four-point play to cap the rally.
Clemson never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Game Notes: BC shot 53.7 percent from the field (29-for-54) ... The Eagles were credited with 22 assists. While Marshall led the way with six assists, three teammates - Dudley, Louis Hinnant and Steve Hailey - each recorded four assists ... Senior forward Sharrod Ford led Clemson with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ford was a two-year high-school teammate of Louis Hinnant at Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, Md. ... Freshman Sean Williams registered two blocked shots to bring his season total to nine ... For Smith, the game marked his 30th collegiate contest with at least 20 points.
