Senior Jermaine Watson scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a reserve role to lead Boston College to an 87-46 non-league win over Long Island University before 2,759 fans in Conte Forum.
Junior Craig Smith also scored 15 points, while sophomore Sean Marshall netted 14 points and junior Louis Hinnant added a career-high 13 points.
The Eagles jumped out to a 10-point lead (11-1) just more than five minutes into the game and never allowed the visiting Blackbirds to negate that advantage.
Long Island (1-2) did score eight straight points to narrow the margin to two points, but BC answered with a 19-5 rally to take a 30-14 lead with 6:48 remaining in the opening half.
BC (4-0) took a 46-21 lead into halftime. All eight BC players who saw action in the first half scored at least two points in the session, including six players who scored between five and nine points. Watson led the charge with nine points and five rebounds.
After LIU hit one free throw to open the second half, BC used a 16-3 run to gain a commanding 62-25 advantage with 13:09 to play in the contest. Smith scored nine points in this stretch.
BC shot 47.2 percent from the field in the game, while limiting the Blackbirds to 27.1 percent shooting. The host Eagles also gained a 54-37 rebounding edge.
Game Notes: All but one of the 11 BC players who saw action scored at least one point. Freshman John Oates scored the Eagles' last basket with 1:01 remaining to record his first collegiate points. Oates also grabbed four rebounds in six minutes of play ... Freshmen Gordon Watt and Sean Williams did not play. Each was serving a suspension after violating team rules ... BC was credited with 24 assists on 34 baskets, bringing its season total to 20.8 assists per game ... Sophomore Jared Dudley registered seven points, seven rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes of action.
