CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - Brian Macchi will join the Boston College softball staff as an assistant coach, according to an announcement made by Boston College head softball coach Jen Finley.
"Having Brian join our staff is very exciting," says Finley. "He has proven hitting skills and brings a wealth of batting knowledge to our team. We are looking for him to continue his excellent tradition here at Boston College."
Macchi graduated from Boston College in 2002 with a degree in elementary education. He was a four-year letter winner for Pete Hughes, seeing time both at third base and in the outfield. He collected a .350 career batting average with 158 hits, 136 RBI, and 27 home runs. During his time at the Heights, he was a CoSIDA/Verizon Academic All-District selection, a two-time All-BIG EAST choice, and the 2002 Boston College Eagle of the Year.
Macchi posted a career-best .376 batting average in 2001, when he collected 56 RBI and 17 home runs. At season's end, he was honored as an ABCA/Rawlings All-Northeast Region first team member and an All-New England first-team member. In 2001, he knocked in a team-best (and career-high) 62 runs.
Macchi is second on BCs all-time RBI list and fourth on the home run list.
Macchi is a native of Milford, Massachusetts. His sister Jenna is currently a sophomore middle infielder for the team.
