Boston - Junior Ryan Shannon scored two goals and also added an assist as Boston College defeated Northeastern by a 4-2 score at Matthews Arena. Tony Voce and Chris Collins each posted one goal and one assist.
For the third time in their last four games, the Eagles were forced to play from behind. Northeastern's Jason Guerriero gave the Huskies the early lead after converting a two-on-one break at 10:17 of the first. The Huskies then padded their lead on a goal by Jared Mudryk. The Eagles managed to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 15:09 of the first frame when Ryan Shannon scored his seventh goal of the season, this one set up by Chris Collins and Dave Spina.
The second period, in which neither team scored, featured a different brand of hockey, as the teams combined for just 11 shots on goal after posting 21 in the first. The second also saw six penalties, compared to none in the first.
Boston College (18-3-3, 11-1-2 Hockey East) evened things less than five minutes into the third. Junior defenseman Greg Lauze found senior Tony Voce in the slot. The winger swiped the puck into the net for his team-leading 17th goal of the season.
Tempers flared at 7:39 of the third after NU's Trevor Reschny was whistled for boarding, but no additional penalties were called. On the ensuing BC power play, Voce took a feed from Shannon and fired a slapshot that NU goalie Keni Gibson turned away. Collins was there to collect the rebound and he found the back of the net, putting the Eagles on top, 3-2.
The Eagles got a scare at 18:59 of the final frame when Andrew Alberts was whistled for delay of game. The Huskies chose to pull Gibson and skate six-on-four, but Shannon found the puck and swept it from the Eagle zone all the way down the ice and into the open net to give the Eagles the 4-2 win.
BC goalie Matti Kaltiainen made 21 saves, while Gibson made 24.
Boston College has a week off before returning home to take on Providence on Friday, January 30. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
