Boston College junior Chris Lambert (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) earned Baseball America's Preseason All-American Second Team honors in an announcement made Jan. 2. Lambert was one of two BIG EAST players mentioned on any of the three teams and the only BIG EAST hurler honored.
Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball had already added Lambert to its preseason All-American Third Team on Dec. 20. This is the second consecutive year that he has received preseason All-America honors. In 2003, he was named to the Preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-America Second Team and earned All-America honors from the same group at season's end.
Lambert, a unanimous preseason first team selection in the BIG EAST, also earned the conference?s 2004 Preseason Pitcher-of-the-Year accolades for the second consecutive year. Lambert's sophomore campaign also saw him chosen as a unanimous selection to the preseason conference team and a postseason first team choice. In his stellar freshman year (2002), Lambert earned both BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, marking the first time that the same player tagged both awards in one season in the history of league.
In 2003, Lambert posted an 8-2 record and a 2.71 earned run average in 79.1 innings of work. The right-hander tied for the league lead in strikeouts (88), while ranking fifth in ERA, tied for fourth in wins, second in opponents' batting average (.216), fifth in innings pitched and second in complete games (seven). His last seven appearances were complete outings, and he won his final four BIG EAST starts, including a one-hitter against Pittsburgh on May 4. Lambert earned BIG EAST Pitcher-of-the-Week honors three times in 2003.
The 2003 Eagle squad finished with the program?s second-highest win total (33-21), while completing a 13-11 record in the BIG EAST .
