Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College scored four goals in the first 6:05 of the second period on its way to a 5-1 win over Boston University in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,884 tonight at Kelley Rink. Freshman Adam Pineault scored two goals for the Eagles. Despite playing without senior captain and leading point-scorer Ben Eaves (knee), the Eagles downed the Terriers for the second time this season.
Boston University (6-7-6, 3-6-2 Hockey East) got on the board first when Kenny Magowan scored a power-play goal with just five seconds remaining in the first period. Defensemen Kevin Schaeffer and Ryan Whitney were credited with the assists.
Boston College (15-3-3, 8-1-2 HE) came out attacking in the second, as four different players scored goals in the first 6:05 of the frame. Chris Collins tallied just 36 seconds in, scoring off a feed from Ryan Shannon, and Ned Havern put the Eagles on top less than a minute later. Stephen Gionta's power-play tally at 3:44 gave the Eagles an insurance goal and chased BU goalie Sean Fields from the game as he gave way to Stephan Siwiec. Pineault got his first goal of the game at 6:05 and potted his second at 3:08 of the third to give the Eagles the 5-1 victory.
BC goaltender Matti Kaltiainen made 20 saves in getting his 13th win of the season. Fields and Siwiec combined to make 22 stops.
The two squads will meet again tomorrow night as the Eagles travel to Walter Brown Arena to take on the Terriers. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
Game Notes: Adam Pineault's two goals marked the first multiple-point game of his career ... John Adams handed out two assists, his second two-point effort of the season.
