CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team shutout BIG EAST opponent Georgetown, 1-0 in a hard-fought conference battle on Newton Campus Soccer Field today.
Freshman Jarryd Goldberg (Ridge, Basking Ridge, N.J.) provided the difference-maker in the 27th minute. He nailed a sliding one-timer into the back of the net off a throw-in from fellow classmate Jamen Amato (Pasadena Polytechnic/Pasadena, Calif.) for the game's only goal.
The goal marked the first of Goldberg's career for the Eagles.
Boston College improves its record to 3-3-0 overall and evens things up at 1-1-0 in conference play. Georgetown falls to 2-3-2 on the season and 0-2-0 in league competition.
Both teams came out strong, fought hard and had their scoring chances. BC edged Georgetown 16-15 in the shot column while the Eagles took three fewer corner kicks (8-5).
Georgetown goalkeeper Tim Hogan collected the loss for the Hoyas but made a number of quality saves against an Eagle attack that put seven shots on net.
The Eagles' senior keeper Mike Cardenas (Boston University/Framingham, Mass.) earned his second shutout of the season finishing with six saves on the day.
The Maroon and Gold heads to Storrs, Conn. on Wednesday for another BIG EAST match-up against UConn. Game time is 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
