UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Boston College men's soccer team beat Big Ten opponent Ohio State, 1-0 in their final game of the Penn State Nike Classic. The Eagles improve their record to 2-3-0 overall and remain 0-1-0 in conference play.
Freshmen winger Jamen Amato (Pasadena Polytechnic/Pasadena, Calif.) scored his first career goal and the only one of the match in the 60th minute off a blast from the top of the box. Freshman Jarryd Goldberg (Ridge/Basking Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore John Krause (Rivers/Holliston, Mass.) tallied assists on the score. Goldberg's assist marked the first point of his collegiate career.
Making his first career start and collecting the win for the Eagles was freshman goaltender Issey Maholo (St. Mary's International/Tokyo, Japan). Maholo made four saves en route to recording his first career shutout and victory.
Penn State, who went 2-0 on the weekend, was crowned tournament champions for the fifth time in six years. Boston College senior Neil Krause (Assumption College/Holliston, Mass.) and freshman Sam Brill (Newton North/Newton, Mass.) were named to the Penn State Nike Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Eagles are back in action at home this Friday when they face-off against BIG EAST foe Georgetown at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. First touch is set for 3 p.m.
