BOSTON, Mass. - After a scoreless first half, the Boston College men's soccer team scored twice in the second stanza to earn a 2-0 victory over host Boston University in front of 2,345 at Nickerson Field on Monday.
Sophomore Brendon Ferullo (Algonquin Regional/Northboro, Mass.) tallied his first career points collecting one goal and one assist as the Eagles (1-1-0, 0-1-0) earned their fourth straight victory over the Terriers and first win of the 2003 season.
The Eagles came out strong and had a number of scoring chances in the first half, but failed to find the back of the net. In the first minute of play after the break, junior Oktay Kilic (University of Heidelberg/ Heidelberg, Germany) sent a cross through the box and Ferullo headed the ball off the bottom of the cross bar. Ferullo's shot went over the outstretched arms of Terrier keeper Chad Comroe and into the net for the Eagles' first score at 45:59.
Senior Neil Krause (Assumption College/Holliston, Mass.) added the insurance goal in the 65th minute of play. Ferullo lofted a cross into the box and Krause one-timed the ball into the back of the net with a header.
Mike Cardenas (Boston University/Framingham, Mass.) earned his second career win and shutout for the Eagles with five saves.
B.C. outshot B.U. 16-8 and had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next, the Boston College will take on Farleigh Dickinson in the Eagles' home opener on Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m., on the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
