Softball Selected For NCAA Tournament Play

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Boston College softball team is one of 64 teams selected to participate in the 2003 NCAA Softball Championship, as announced Sunday night by the NCAA Division I Women's Softball Committee.
The Eagles (33-20) will be the No. 6 seed at the Tucson, Arizona regional. Held at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on the campus of University of Arizona, the Region 1 will be held Thursday through Sunday, May 15-18. The Eagles will face Texas A&M (35-20) Thursday at 2:00 p.m. EST in their first game of the double-elimination bracket.
No. 1-ranked and No. 1-seeded Arizona (50-5) plays host to one of eight NCAA Women's Softball Championships. This is the first year of a 64-team field for NCAA softball championships, which began Division I championship play in 1982. In addition to BC and host Arizona, the Tucson regional includes Colorado State (35-13), Minnesota (35-18-1), Cal State Northridge (26-21), Texas A&M (35-20), South Carolina (38-18), and Princeton (23-19-1).
Winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the Women's College World Series at the ASA Don E. Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
