Senior running back Horace Dodd (Hamden, CT) carried the ball 20 times for 66 yards and a touchdown against a stingy Eagle defense Sunday afternoon in Boston College's final intrasquad scrimmage of the spring campaign. The Eagles will play their annual Jay McGillis Spring Game next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
"We showed a marked improvement this week," Coach Tom O'Brien said. "There was better intensity on both sides of the ball. The defense played very well and did a great job stopping the run. The offense came out and ran the ball much better today. Overall, I was very pleased."
Dodd and fellow senior Derrick Knight (Westwood) both played this week after sitting out last weekend's scrimmage. Knight carried the ball 16 times for 25 yards, while junior Everett Lee (Philadelphia, PA) picked up 33 yards on 18 carries.
Once again, a pair of freshmen quarterbacks took all the snaps. Walk-on Dan Berglund (Shorewood, MN) completed seven of 15 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown, to redshirt freshman wide receiver Jason Lilly (Dover, DE). Redshirt freshman QB Karim El Nokali (Pittsburgh, PA) completed eight of 17 passes for 58 yards.
Tight end Chris Miller (Upper Arlington, OH) snagged three completions on the day for 22 yards. Junior wide receiver Grant Adams (Glen Rock, NJ) caught two passes for 13 yards.
Senior All-BIG EAST place-kicker Sandro Sciortino (Markham, Ontario) connected on field goals of 37, 34 and 37 yards.
"Hopefully the weather will hold out," O'Brien says, "and we'll be able to practice three more times before next Saturday's spring game."
