Softball Shuts Out Harvard, 7-0

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team collected a single victory over Harvard Thursday afternoon at Shea Field on the campus of Boston College. The Eagles shut out the Crimson, 7-0 and improved to 13-12 overall.
Senior short stop Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) spearheaded a four-run fourth inning to propel the Eagles to victory. In the first inning, Blumfield belted an RBI single that would stand for the game winning hit. She then knocked a three-run homer in the fourth inning to ice the victory.
After Blumfield's first-inning RBI single, freshman Elena Ferrero (Van Nuys, Calif.) smacked a two-run home run in the second inning to put BC up 3-0. Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) scored ahead of Ferrero after reaching on a single of her own. Ferrero finished with two RBI on the afternoon.
Ferrero (2-3), Blumfield (2-4) and Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, Calif.) all had multiple hit games. Goodchild was 2-for-3 with two runs scored on the afternoon.
Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.), Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, Calif.), and Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) combined for the win on the mound. Daly collected the win, improving to 2-4 overall. She pitched four innings and had five strikeouts while allowing just two hits.
Boston College will host BIG EAST foes Rutgers (Saturday) and Villanova (Sunday) this weekend. Both doubleheaders begin at 12 noon at Shea Field.
