Rowing Results From Dual Race Against URI

Narrow River, R.I. - The Boston College women's rowing team competed in a dual race against the University of Rhode Island on Saturday on the Narrow River in Rhode Island. The Eagles competed in six events and took home four first place finishes.
The varsity 8 had a good race and finished 3.6 seconds ahead of URI, with a time of 7:50.30. "We took control of the race early and raced very aggressively in some tough conditions," said head coach, Steve Fiske. In the boat for the Eagles was cox Vicky Haley, stroke Anne Nelson, Amelia Stephens, Tess Casey, Katie Stainken, Steph Guertin, Liz Milliar, Kelly Griffin and Cate Boron.
The second varsity also came out victorious finishing with a time of 7:57.17. URI finished with a time of 8:04.67. Senior Lauren Ippolitio coxed this crew for BC consisting of stroke Amanda Wood, followed by Amy Boyle, Laura Bustos, Martha Tierney, Megan Olmstead, Sarah Burns, Colleen Hughes, Erin MacKay, and Meghan Anson in bow.
In the varsity four event the final times were 8:53.66 for the Eagles, and 9:02.97 for URI. Eagles in the four were Lindsay Jansen, Brianne Moskovitz, Kendall Hoekstra, and Liz Logan. This crew was coxed by Sabrina Peter.
The Women's second varsity four had a tough race but battled it through to the end. URI won the event with a time of 9:24.02. BC finished with a time of 10:42.14. The Eagles in this crew were Lauren Lehane, Colleen Hughes, Jessica Rouge, Kim Dugan, and Betsy Juarez as the coxswain.
The Novice 8 had one of their best races of the year, finishing with a time of 8:36.10, over twenty seconds ahead of the URI Novice crew. The Eagles' boat was stroked by Jamie Lavin, followed by Lauren Faircy, Brae Holdridge, Carla Pherson, Kate Nowell, Caroline Cromwell, Sara Porter, and Megan Hatch in bow. The coxswain was Courtney Barrows.
The Women's Novice four competed in their first race of the season together as a crew. They had a good race and finished with a time of 11:05.21. URI finished with a final time of 10:08.76. The Eagles for this race were Caitlin Loftus, Amy Coleman, Kaitlin Plunkett, Lauren Ferrara, and Kate Donovan as the coxswain.
"Despite the wind and rough water, we really had a great day," said Coach Fiske. "We are feeling good about our speed and are looking forward to Big Easts!"
The Eagles will return to action this Sunday at the Big East Rowing Challenge in Worcester, MA.
